Things to Consider When Choosing Bathroom Blinds

Posted on 28th March 2014 by Gemini Blinds

When it comes to interior decoration, a lot of attention is paid to living rooms and bedrooms, kitchens and dining rooms. The bathroom is often overlooked when it comes to selecting furnishings and window dressings, as practicalities are often prioritised over aesthetics in this room.

However, there are simple additions that can be made to the décor of the bathroom that can provide a touch of style while also offering the practical elements that are required. Window blinds are a great example of this, and a wide variety of styles and designs are available to choose from that are ideal for your bathroom.

Colour

A lot of research has been carried out into the effect that different colours and shades have on our mood, so employing some of this knowledge when selecting a bathroom blind may help to alter your state of mind for the better. Blue is an obvious choice for the bathroom, with its aqua associations and calming properties when used in a lighter shade, while strong reds or yellows promote energy and productivity.

Practicality

One of the more obvious properties that a bathroom blind must have is the ability to remain waterproof. Fabric based blinds that become damp regularly may encourage mould growth – a fairly undesirable thing in any room of the house. It’s not just water from showers and sinks that present an issue; condensation from humidity also causes dampness.

uPVC or faux wood blinds are the best material to use in this situation, as they  are the most waterproof, although some fabrics will be fine if the room is kept well ventilated and windows are opened regularly. Specialised water-resistant blinds are also available, in both roller and blackout styles, giving you yet more options when it comes to your bathroom décor.

Privacy

Another consideration for any bathroom window dressing is whether or not it offers sufficient privacy – you don’t want to be getting out the shower only to spot a passing neighbour with a clear view through your window!

Blackout blinds are an ideal solution here, as they are entirely opaque with no light able to pass through them, as well as providing acoustic insulation properties for those that like to sing in the shower!

On the less extreme side, Venetian blinds allow for a balance between privacy and light control, meaning that you can protect your modesty from the outside world while still allowing humid air and sunlight to exit and enter.

Here at Gemini Blinds, we stock a wide range of attractive blinds that can transform your bathroom into a relaxing or invigorating environment while not compromising on practicality. From uPVC Venetian blinds to roller blinds, our prices are highly competitive, and our team are on hand to come directly to you to carry out measuring for your bathroom, ensuring a perfect fit.
